About
“One of the absolute shooting stars of the international opera scene” (Ruhr Nachrichten), this is how Maayan Licht, a countertenor (or sopranist) from Israel with a rare male voice, is described.
Having won the title of “Best Newcomer” at the Oper! Awards 2025, the soloist is recognized as one of the most exciting rising voices in opera today. Known as the ‘modern-day Farinelli,’ Licht is renowned for performing roles that almost no one else sings, combining vocal virtuosity with emotional depth. Alongside his stage career, he has become a social media phenomenon, introducing classical music and opera to new audiences around the world; he has hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, as well as millions of views. He has earned exceptional critical acclaim for his performances on opera and concert stages. These include the title role in Händel’s Xerxes, Cherubino in Mozart’s opera Le nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro), Achille in Nicola Porpora’s opera Ifigenia in Aulide, the role of Erodiade’s daughter (Salome) in Alessandro Stradella’s oratorio San Giovanni Battista (St. John the Baptist), the soprano part in Johann Christian Bach’s cantata Amor vincitore, and many others.
Tonight, the singer will join the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and its artistic director, Maestro Modestas Pitrėnas. The programme will feature opera arias and instrumental works by George Frideric Händel, Antonio Vivaldi, Geminiano Giacomelli, Georges Bizet, and Joseph Haydn.
