Brass concert at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society presents renowned trumpeter Gábor Tarkövi

News

On February 11, world-renowned trumpeter Gábor Tarkövi will grace the stage of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Concert Hall. Together with the brass section of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO), he will take the audience on an impressive musical journey. The concert When Brass Instruments Sound will embrace different eras and timbres – from early music to compositions by contemporary composers.

In addition to their busy concert schedule, the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society’s musicians constantly strive for professional perfection. This is best reflected in the recent brass instrument masterclasses led by Gábor Tarkövi, renowned professor from Germany.

Tarkövi is a renowned trumpeter, graduate of the Richter János Conservatory and the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music. His field of activity is traditional brass music. He was principal trumpeter of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (2004–2019) and currently is Professor at the Berlin University of the Arts, a soloist and chamber music performer giving concerts all over the world.

As a chamber music performer, Tarkövi is a member of various ensembles: Pro Brass, the Vienna Wind Quintet, Berlin Wind Quintet, the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Trio, and others. As a soloist he appears with such renowned orchestras as the Berlin Philharmonic, Chamber Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio, China National Symphony Orchestra, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, and London Symphony Orchestra. Having signed a contract with the Swiss record label Tudor Classics, Tarkövi has recorded four CDs.

During his visit to Vilnius, the authoritative trumpeter not only gave his colleagues brass instrumentalists the opportunity to learn from his knowledge and extensive international experience but also encouraged them to prepare a joint concert programme. On February 11, at the concert When Brass Instruments Sound, the audience will be able to appreciate the fruits of the musicians’ joint creative work.

This concert featuring the LNSO brass section is a great chance to get to know brass instruments better, with their different timbres and expressive possibilities, as they take the audience on a journey through the eras from Michael Praetorius and Henry Purcell to Leonard Bernstein, John La Barbera, and Mirco Magnani. Alongside such giants of symphonic music as Richard Strauss and Anton Bruckner, the music connoisseurs will get acquainted with the lesser-known composers Enrique Crespo and Christian Mühlbacher.

Chamber music concert When Brass Instruments Sound will take place on Wednesday, February 11 at 19.00 in the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Concert Hall. For the full program of the LNPhS 85th season please visit www.nationalphilharmonic.lt  LNPhS 85th concert season is sponsored by NORFA.
