About
With this concert, we will celebrate the 90th anniversary of Maestro Juozas Domarkas, Honorary Conductor of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra. One of the most renowned Lithuanian conductors, a figure of great importance to Lithuanian musical culture, and an exceptionally experienced and influential teacher of conducting, he served as artistic director and principal conductor of the LNSO for 51 years.
Highly regarded for the maturity and sophistication of his musical thinking, as well as his vivid and emotional conducting style, Domarkas has been invited to conduct not only Lithuanian but also renowned European orchestras since the very beginning of his career; he has led opera and ballet productions at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, and at the Klaipėda Music Theatre.
One of Lithuania’s most renowned pianists, Mūza Rubackytė, will be in attendance to congratulate the Maestro and pay tribute to his distinguished musical career. She will perform Ferenc Liszt’s Piano concerto No. 2. The evening’s programme will also feature monumental works by Liszt’s contemporaries – Richard Wagner and Johannes Brahms.
