About

Tonight, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra shares the stage with the world-renowned pianist and conductor Barry Douglas. A Cavalier of the Order of the British Empire, Barry Douglas is the founder and artistic director of Camerata Ireland and the Clandeboye Festival. He is a performer with a very wide international touring schedule.

Barry Douglas has performed with the Berlin Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, Leipzig’s Gewandhaus, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, the symphony orchestras of France, Philadelphia, Chicago, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Sydney, Singapore, and the leading London orchestras. He has appeared at venues such as London’s Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican and Wigmore Hall, as well as the Verbier Festival, Shanghai Grand Theatre, Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing and others. In 1986, the pianist won the Gold Medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition.

The maestro is known as a great interpreter of music from the Classical and Romantic eras; he has conducted all of Beethoven’s symphonies and recorded all of Brahms’ piano opuses. In this concert, featuring all three Viennese classics, Barry Douglas will conduct Mozart’s overture to the opera Don Giovanni (1788) and Haydn’s last Symphony No. 104, London (1795), as well as solo in Beethoven’s Fifth Piano concerto in E flat major, Emperor (1811).
