About

Founded in Berlin in 1982, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin is one of the world’s leading chamber orchestras playing historically informed music today.

For more than four decades, the orchestra has been organising exciting concert projects presenting many forgotten or rediscovered works and has been instrumental in reviving the music of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann. The Orchestra has consistently and meticulously expanded its Baroque and Classical repertoire to include unknown 19th-century contexts, with the project Beethoven’s Symphonies and their role models being much-acclaimed.

The Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin is alternately directed by concertmaster Bernhard Forck or Georg Kallweit and conducted by selected guest conductors. A great favourite with Berliners, the Orchestra is also a sought-after guest on the most important concert stages in Europe and the world.

While the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin’s heart beats faster when it comes to Baroque operas, at the Vilnius Festival it will present a spectacular programme of instrumental music, inviting the audience to travel through Baroque Europe. The key to the programme is the still-emerging genre of the concerto and its variations, including works by the great composers of the time, J.S. Bach, G.F. Handel, G.P. Telemann, and A.Vivaldi, as well as compositions by the still-being discovered composers F.M. Veracini, T.M. Merula, J.V. Meder, and F. Geminiani, written for a wide variety of orchestral forces and soloists.
