About

The early music ensemble Canto Fiorito, comprising talented musicians, is presenting a unique event at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Concert Hall – the premiere of a Baroque masterpiece in our time!

Giovanni Paolo Colonna (1637–1695) was one of the most prominent composers of the Baroque era in Italy: a renowned teacher, organist, and organ master. He is the pioneer of the “missa concertata” style, combining the grandeur of the Mass with the rich sound of a string orchestra. His most ambitious work, Missa a più cori con più cori di stromenti for string orchestra and three choirs, is a magnificent monument of Baroque sacred music. Surprisingly, this masterpiece has not yet been performed in our time. As part of a project initiated by Canto Fiorito, the first modern edition of the score has been put together and will be made available to early music professionals worldwide on the ensemble’s website. Canto Fiorito, in collaboration with Lithuanian soloists and the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, presents the long-awaited world premiere of this work, which will take place in the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Concert Hall and the Klaipėda Concert Hall. This is a significant contribution to the discovery and revitalization of early music.
