Masterclasses by renowned foreign experts at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society
“The Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society has welcomed its 84th season full of not only impressive concert plans, but also new aspirations for educational activities. The musicians’ masterclasses to be held at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society from October to December are an ambitious response to the project proposed by the Ministry of Culture. It is aimed at improving the professional qualification and competences of musicians of orchestral instrument sections,” Rūta Prusevičienė, Director General of the LNPhS, introduces the soon-to-be held masterclasses.
The project was implemented with the help of representatives of professional performing arts institutions as well as world-renowned experts from higher education institutions in foreign countries specialising in the training of brass, woodwind and percussion musicians. “We are glad that the musicians of the LNPhS’ resident ensembles were actively involved in the organisation of the training, suggesting foreign musicians to be chosen to conduct the masterclasses,” says Prusevičienė.
The training at the LNPhS will take place in several phases, with masterclasses aimed at specific instrument sections. On 21-23 October, musicians of the bassoon section will be trained by Bence Bogányi (Germany); on 4-5 November, musicians of the brass section will be trained by Gábor Tarkövi (Germany); on 18-19 November, musicians of the percussion section will be trained by Hemming Valebjørg (Norway); on 29-30 November, Nicolas Baldeyrou (France) will teach the musicians of clarinet section; on 2-3 December, Jean-Louis Capezzali (France) will teach musicians of the oboe section in the Chamber Hall, and Stefan Dohr (Germany) will teach musicians of the French horn (brass) section in the Concert Hall.
The competence development training at the LNPhS will be open to musicians of the National Philharmonic as well as musicians of other institutions or ensembles, as the project welcomes musicians of all professional performing arts institutions in the Republic of Lithuania. The training will be conducted in a contact way (playing on stage) and in a non-contact way (participant in a hall).
Musicians of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society will be given preference to participate in the contact activities, however, in case of vacancies, musicians of other professional performing arts institutions will be invited to participate in the contact activities as well. Students of higher education institutions training musicians are also invited to participate in a non-contact way.
Masterclasses led by foreign musicians will take place at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society from October to December 2024 as part of the project “Improving the Qualifications and Competences of Professional Performing Arts Musicians”. The project is funded by the EU, as part of the progress measures of the Ministry of Culture and the 2021-2030 Culture and Creativity Development Programme.
