VILNIUS FESTIVAL 1999

Krzysztof Penderecki, one of the most eminent modern composers, will symbolically open the first page of the Vilnius Festival ’99 with his oratorio “Seven Gates of Jerusalem”. On the edge of the new century David Geringas and Sofia Gubaidulina, Onutė Narbutaitė and Giya Kancheli, Gidon Kremer and Ástor Piazzolla will meet each other. These are the musicians, whose names have already been enlisted into the cultural history of this century. Like every year, the gates of the Vilnius Festival will be open to the music of various epochs and cultures. We will hear the masterpieces of baroque, romanticism, and modern music, opera, tango, and flamenco.

For the performers and all those in the audience of the Vilnius Festival’99, I wish that everyone would experience the joy of these wonderful musical performances.
