Curonian Spit 2023 programme

The International Chamber Music Summer Festival “Curonian Spit”, launched and organized on the initiative of prof. Algirdas Vizgirda in Neringa in August 1999, has become a traditional significant accent of the cultural development of this region. “Neringa, a charming strip of land formed by the forces of nature, has always been and, I am confident, will remain a place of attraction for musicians, artists, sculptors, architects, writers, and poets. This remarkably unique spit separating the Baltic Sea from the Curonian lagoon has a truly magnetic pull, as if it were a channel of some transcendental energy that brings us closer to Eternity. The musical art of the Medieval and Baroque eras, as well as Classicism, Romanticism, Impressionism and Modernism, in all its current transformations, also brings us closer to eternity and inspires us to develop an unquenchable thirst for perfection and joy of creation”, says professor Algirdas Vizgirda, the initiator of the festival.

The essential idea of the “Curonian Spit” – to present the most outstanding works of the past epochs and contemporary composers of the Baltic region to holidaymakers and tourists coming to the seaside – is closely connected with an extremely important cultural development program of Lithuanian regions. The main performer of the festival is the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society’s Chamber Music Ensemble Musica Humana. Our most famous instrumentalists, soloists vocalists and ensembles take part in the festival programmes. Performed by outstanding musicians the festival programmes receive special attention and great recognition from the listeners and critics alike. In 2019, prof. Robertas Beinaris took over the festival leadership from prof. A. Vizgirda.
