The 17th Vilnius Festival brings together its participants and audiences for a special occasion – Lithuania’s presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The festival will feature outstanding performers and programmes. We will hear opera soloist Violeta Urmana, who will not only open the festival in Vilnius but will also perform with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra this fall at a concert in Brussels dedicated to Lithuania’s presidency of the Council of the European Union. Pianist Andrius Žlabys will perform Bach’s piano concertos. On the Day of Mourning and Hope, composer Krzysztof Penderecki’s “Polish Requiem” will be performed; this concert will also honor Penderecki himself, who is celebrating his 80th birthday this year. A highlight will be the performance by jazz legend Bobby McFerrin and his instrumental ensemble.

I am delighted that the festival can present these and other artists to the Lithuanian audience.
