About
Vilnius Festival invites you to a free concert featuring guests from distant Taiwan! The cultural friendship between small countries, Lithuania and Taiwan, overcomes even the longest distances and encourages the determination to preserve camaraderie and eternal values. The Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, the Čiurlionis Quartet, the Jazz Island Vocal Ensemble have already presented Lithuanian music art in Taiwan. This time, the Taiwan Philharmonic Chamber Ensemble is visiting Vilnius. The ensemble is made up of musicians from the Taiwan Philharmonic, who have performed with the orchestra in many cities in the USA, in Singapore, Tokyo and Seoul, as well as in Vienna, Paris, Berlin, Milan and elsewhere. Founded in 1986, the Taiwan Philharmonic (a.k.a. Taiwan National Symphony Orchestra) has earned the distinction of being the best symphony orchestra in Asia, and has successfully acted as a strong ambassador of Taiwanese culture.
Hao-Tun Teng, concertmaster of the Taiwan National Symphony Orchestra and winner of competitions, assembled the Taiwan Philharmonic Chamber Ensemble from the orchestra’s finest musicians, who have studied at the New England Conservatory, the University of Michigan, the University of Maryland, and the University of Indiana (USA). The chamber ensemble’s distinctive line-up, string quartet, harp and clarinet, promises colourful and unique musical experience, including a world premiere! It is Enchanted Forest Whispers for string quartet and harp (commissioned by Taiwan’s Hakka Affairs Council) by award-winning composer and pianist Ching-Mei Lin. The guest ensemble offers a rare opportunity to listen to Taiwanese folk music and unknown Taiwanese composers.
