About

Hugo Ticciati, a violin virtuoso of exceptional creativity, returns to Lithuania. “His technical and musical command are extraordinary, and his creative imagination is compelling”, wrote the Herald Scotland. The distinguished musician has performed in Lithuania several times and is already an audience favourite here, with concerts attracting a large number of listeners. Ticciati will appear with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Concert Hall on 25th October, both as a soloist and as a conductor.

“A rare ability to convey a profound understanding of the music and shed light on its spiritual intent,” said the renowned composer Arvo Pärt of the violinist. Ticciati is a highly creative and versatile personality. He is passionate about playing at world premieres of new works, exploring non-European musical cultures as a performer and creating innovative concert programmes merging early music with the new for his own ensemble O/Modernt. Combining old and new in unexpected ways, under the direction of Ticciati O/Modernt celebrates connectivity in and through the arts, aiming to bring about a heightened awareness of connections that span times, cultures and peoples. Ticciati has adopted John Cage’s motto as the motto for himself and for this project: “Invent the past. Revisit the future.”

Ticciati’s concert programmes, performances and festivals he organises stand out for originality. John Gilhooly, director of London’s famous Wigmore Hall, has called him one of the most gifted young conductors and artistic directors he has ever encountered. “His interweaving of themes results in the most unexpected and joyful musical experience. It’s sheer pleasure to sit through a concert put together by Hugo,” said John Gilhooly.

Ticciati performs all over the world, collaborating with top chamber orchestras such as Kremerata Baltica, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra. Upcoming performances include appearances with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra (DSO), the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Potsdam Chamber Academy and Tapiola Sinfonietta. Ticciati teaches and gives masterclasses in Scandinavia and elsewhere. As a promoter of chamber music, he performs extensively with O/Modernt Soloists, the ensemble he founded and directs, a group of the most accomplished musicians of his generation.

Ticciati’s repertoire includes the most important violin concertos of the past and present by Beethoven, Brahms, Adams, Glass, Lutosławski and Penderecki. Contemporary composers Peter Vasks, Dobrinka Tabakova, Erkki-Sven Tüür and others have dedicated their new works to this musician.

With O/Modernt, Ticciati won the Gramophone Concept Album Award in 2020 for his CD From the Ground Up: The Chaconne, released on the British label Signum Classics.
