About
The Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Karolis Variakojis, along with pianists Kamilė Zaveckaitė and Julija Bagdonavičiūtė, invite young listeners to discover the diversity of musical rhythms – from calm old-fashioned dance rhythms to passionate Argentine tango passages.
American composer Morton Gould’s Dance Variations will take the listeners back to ancient times, to the Baroque and Renaissance eras, when composers particularly liked to base their music on a wide variety of dance rhythms. This will be followed by Argentine tango legend Astor Piazzolla’s Libertango, a piece that everyone has heard in its various forms and will recognize!
The musicians will also offer French composer Darius Milhaud’s suite Scaramouche, which demonstrates how different tonalities and rhythms can be combined in a single work. This colourful and playful rhythm journey will conclude with English composer Richard Rodney Bennett’s Four Piece Suite for two pianos, which features rhythms of samba, country, reggae, and even heavy rock!
