About

On 2 February, Musica humana Ensemble, its artistic director, oboist Robertas Beinaris, pianist Sonata Alšauskaitė and other soloists invite to a concert Schilflieder (Songs of the Reeds).

Beinaris agreed to share his thoughts on the concert programme: “These works are beautifully united by music language, neo-romantic, impressionistic and neoclassical feel. I think that the Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů’s Fantasia for theremin (or ondes Martenot), oboe, string quartet and piano will be performed in Lithuania for the first time. I am delighted that Saulius Šiaučiulis has dedicated the Sonata for oboe and piano to me, and this will be the premiere of a work written in the spirit of romantic jazz. Matas Jaroševičius won 2nd prize in the 2024 Young Composers’ Competition “My Note” for his opus Pavasaris (Spring) for guitar and string quartet.

The neo-romantic Schilflieder (Songs of the Reeds) for oboe, viola and piano by the 19th-century German composer August Klughardt is one of my most favoured works, but it is rarely performed, as few pianists dare to play the very difficult piano part. In this concert it will be performed by Sonata Alšauskaitė, who will also offer beautifully matched works by the impressionist Claude Debussy. The pianist is the winner of the 2003 International M. K. Čiurlionis Piano and Organ Competition. She has also won first prizes at competitions such as “Virtuosi per musica di pianoforte Usti nad Labem”, Czerny in Prague, “Konzerteum” in Athens and Rubinstein in Paris. She has given concerts in various European countries, in Chile, has appeared with Lithuanian and foreign orchestras, and as a member of chamber ensembles.”
