About

“A pianist distinguished by his magisterial elegance, power, and insight,” writes The New York Times about Norwegian Leif Ove Andsnes. Tonight, he will perform works by Schumann, Beethoven, and Chopin at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Concert Hall.

Appearing in Lithuania for the first time, the pianist has gained international recognition for his virtuoso technique and profound interpretations. He performs in the world’s most famous concert halls with renowned orchestras; was nominated for a Grammy Award eleven times, his discography comprises more than fifty recordings that have won numerous international awards. An avid chamber musician, he is the founding director of the Rosendal Chamber Music Festival. The pianist has been inducted into the Gramophone Hall of Fame and has been awarded honorary doctorates by the Juilliard School in New York and the University of Bergen.

Andsnes is the recipient of both the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Instrumentalist Award and the Gilmore Artist Award, has received Norway’s distinguished honour, Commander of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav, and the prestigious Peer Gynt Prize. The pianist has delivered special concert series: Carnegie Hall’s Perspective Series; he was the subject of the London Symphony Orchestra’s Artist Portrait Series; Pianist-in-Residence of the Berlin Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, and Gothenburg Philharmonic.
