About

The legendary pianist Sir András Schiff, coming to Lithuania for the first time, would probably need a book of his own to list his merits, achievements and successful collaborations with the world’s most renowned classical music ensembles, performers and conductors. Recently, the pianist has immersed himself deeply in the beloved recital genre. The names of Bach, Haydn, Schubert, Beethoven and Bartók have become inseparable from his concert life – Schiff has performed all the piano works by these composers.

Fellow musicians and music critics are not only fascinated but also inspired by Schiff’s highly intelligent interpretations. A musician who seeks the truth, a musician of sophisticated intelligence – that is probably the shortest and most apt way of describing this musician, who has been hailed as one of the most important pianists not only of his own generation, but of all that have ever lived. Exactly what story he will share in Vilnius no one knows; only one thing is certain: it will undoubtedly be unique and special.

Although Schiff is considered an ambassador of the lesser-known repertoire and compositions for piano by contemporary composers, this time he will be playing the classics. The works for piano by Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert are associated with the forms, stylistics, and pianistic language characteristic of the Classicism, and are therefore considered to form the basis of the classical piano repertoire.
