About
Tonight, Musica Humana, its artistic director, oboist Robertas Beinaris, and the soloists invite you to travel the world of Spanish music. Alongside music by well-known composers such as Manuel de Falla (Danza ritual del Fuego (Ritual Fire Dance) from the ballet El amor brujo (The Bewitched Love)) and Joaquin Turina (La oración del torero (Prayer of the Toreador)), the audience will have the opportunity to discover the works of lesser-known Spanish and Spanish-speaking composers.
Beinaris, the mastermind of the programme, says: “This concert is an educational musical journey through the colourful musical heritage of Spain, where different styles of music intertwine, evoking emotions and testifying to the unique Spanish spirit and traditions. Joaquin Rodrigo’s famous Concierto de Aranjuez for harp and orchestra is an unparalleled display of Spanish emotion and expression; many of the pieces will reflect traditional elements of Spanish folklore as well as contemporary musical styles. The concert will end with the spectacular song Granada by Mexican composer Agustín Lara and the wonderful Canción de Paloma (Song of the Turtle Dove) from Francisco Asenjo Barbieri’s zarzuela, the Spanish comic opera. We invite everyone to enjoy this music!”
