About

On July 19, the Warsaw Chamber Opera Orchestra Musicae Antiquae Collegium Varsoviense, playing on period instruments and already well known to festival audience, returns to Jašiūnai Manor. The Orchestra will perform works by Baroque and Classical masters.

The first early music ensemble in Poland was founded in 1957 by Stefan Sutkowski. Its members set out to promulgate newly discovered treasures of Polish music, so in 1961 the ensemble established the Warsaw Chamber Opera; its Orchestra members honed their skills under the guidance of Europe’s most renowned early music experts, actively participated in early music concerts and festivals, and made recordings.

The Orchestra’s repertoire includes the first example of the opera genre: Jacopo Peri’s rarely performed opera Euridice, as well as all of Claudio Monteverdi’s surviving operas and works by early Baroque composers from England and France. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s operas hold a special place in the Orchestra’s repertoire.
