About
One of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society’s resident ensembles, the Čiurlionis Quartet, will perform at the festival Music at the Jašiūnai Manor alongside a double bassist Donatas Bagurskas and a guest from Moldova, Ana Verhovețchi, who plays the Pan flute. The audience will be captivated not only by the renowned Moldovan musician but also by an instrument rarely seen on stage – the Pan flute, also known as the syrinx.
This instrument was named after the ancient Greek god Pan. According to legend, Pan fell in love with the forest nymph Syrinx, but she found him, half-goat, half-man, repulsive, so in an attempt to hide from him, Syrinx metamorphosed into a reed. Disheartened, Pan cut down several reeds, arranged them parallel to one another, and, having thus created a wind instrument, began to play.
This time, the audience will hear various interpretations of classical music and traditional Romanian melodies performed by a Pan flute and string quartet.
