About
The large part of the concert Bird Song consists of songs by contemporary Lithuanian women composers, conveying poignant stories and themes, strong emotional and spiritual states. The programme focuses on the palette of women’s experiences and ways of creative expression, reflecting on different shades of love, motherhood, longing, and the fragility of being. These are revealed through the relationship of music with images and stories from mythology, folklore, religion and poetry. The title of the programme was inspired by a Lithuanian saga of a woman-bird with a tragic fate in the Lithuanian Pamario region and the theatre production based on this story, featuring Raminta Šerkšnytė’s Saulos dainos (Saula Songs).
Alongside female composers, the programme is complemented by works by male composers, conveying expressive images of women and feelings expressed in their own voices.
This unique programme is presented by mezzo-soprano Renata Dubinskaitė – an interpreter of Baroque and contemporary music, the main soloist of the international early music ensemble Canto Fiorito, producer of the aforementioned ensemble and the Kretinga Early Music Festival, member of the Duo Barocco and of the early music ensemble Lux Maris, which she founded, as well as a mastermind of concert programmes, and a performer of oratorio and opera roles.
Pianist Jonė Punytė is a winner of international competitions in Lithuania and Austria, participant of the festivals in Lithuania, Germany and Italy. As a soloist she has appeared with the orchestras of the LAMT and VMU. She focuses on contemporary and chamber music, especially the Lied genre.
