About

The M. K. Čiurlionis National Art School symphony orchestra, performing for more than 20 years, is admired for its the professionalism, energy, and diverse musical knowledge of the talented young musicians. The orchestra’s repertoire focuses on classical, romantic, and 20th-century works, but there is always room for opuses by Lithuanian composers. “This orchestra is exceptionally good. Its success and recognition are due to the responsible work of its teachers and the growing enthusiasm of pupils,” says the orchestra’s artistic director, renowned conductor Martynas Staškus. For many years, the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society has nurtured the wonderful tradition of giving the orchestra and soloists of the M. K. Čiurlionis National Art School the opportunity to perform in Lithuania’s most important concert hall every spring.

The soloists, talented pupils of the school, have already performed many of the most beautiful instrumental concertos. Tonight’s programme presents a cheerful, sparkling mosaic enriched by the solo instruments of various timbres – from Mozart to Piazzolla, still enchanting all generations of music connoisseurs of today, as well as an excerpt from one of the most outstanding musicals of all time, Bernstein’s West Side Story.
